Press release

VANCOUVER, April 27, 2018 – Air Canada gathered members of the Vancouver travel industry at the Waterview this week to celebrate their new European non-stop routes, including the launch of the Vancouver-Paris seasonal route, starting June 8th.

“This Air Canada service is great news, one more direct travel option for Canadians living on the West Coast. The charms of Paris and all of France await, with newly opened museums, a vast choice of accommodations, and a spectacular cultural program for the summer”, stated Melanie Paul-Hus, Atout France’s director for Canada who attended the carrier’s event along with Mr. Philippe Sutter, Consul General of France in Vancouver. Mr. Sutter joined his voice to congratulate Air Canada for this new direct seasonal link, which will certainly contribute to develop stronger economic and cultural ties between France and Western Canada.

The total number of visitors to the Greater Paris, all accommodation combined, exceeded a record 40 million tourists last year. In 2018, Paris will be hosting prestigious exhibitions: Tintoretto at the Musée du Luxembourg, Eugène Delacroix at the Musée du Louvre, Mary Cassat at the Musée Jacquemard-André, Picasso Blue and Pink at the Musée d’Orsay, and Jewellery by artists: from Picasso to Jeff Koons will be on show at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs .

The French capital will also host major sporting events this year: the Gay Games, which will be held in August, the 42nd edition of the Ryder Cup at the Golf National (Paris Region) and the 13th European Women’s Handball Championship, a foretaste of what is in store when the city hosts the 2023 Rugby World Cup and the Olympic Games in the summer of 2024.
